It was the 4th day of December, 2000, when IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Company or ITGI, came into existence. The insurance company is a co-operative undertaking which is a collaboration of Indian Farmers Fertilizer Co-Operative (IFFCO) along with its associates and Tokio Marine and Nichido Fire group, which is the largest listed insurance company of Japan. With 51 ‘Strategic Business Units’ and 110 offices all over India, the firm has started with a modest amount of Rs 213 crores of Gross Written Premium in the year 2001-2002. But with hard work, perseverance and strong resolution the firm has emerged to be Indian leading private players within the year 2009-2010 with a turnover of Rs 1639.5 crores. In India, it is the only insurance company to have a fully owned distribution channel called IFFCO-TOKIO Insurance Service Ltd, in order to provide services to its retail customers.
